ICPC Appoints Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim as ACAN Provost
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has appointed Professor Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim as the Provost of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN).
The appointment was disclosed in a statement by J. Okor Odey, Spokesperson and Head of Media & Public Communications, and was announced on Monday, January 26, 2026, during the Commission’s 2026 Retreat.
Professor Ibrahim succeeds Professor Tunde Babawale following the completion of his tenure.
A renowned scholar and administrator, Professor Ibrahim is currently the Director of the International Centre at the University of Abuja and has previously served as Head of the Department of Political Science and Director of the Centre for Legislative Studies.
His academic work aligns closely with ACAN’s mandate. He is the originator of the “post-colonial internalism” theory, which identifies corruption as a major impediment to Africa’s development. His research output includes over a dozen academic books and more than 100 journal articles on leadership, governance, and corruption in Nigeria.
Professor Ibrahim has also earned international recognition through fellowships from the Social Science Research Council and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and has participated in major global policy platforms such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The ICPC expressed confidence that his appointment will further strengthen ACAN’s research capacity, training programmes, and international collaborations, enhancing its contribution to Nigeria’s anti-corruption architecture.
ACAN is the ICPC’s specialised research and training institution, responsible for capacity building, applied research, integrity studies, and professional education in support of national and international anti-corruption efforts.
