Ibori-Suenu Condemns APC Congress Attack, Demands Justice
Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Member representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has strongly condemned the violent attack that marred the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ethiope West Congress, describing the incident as a “senseless and unacceptable act” that undermines democratic values.
The lawmaker, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), made the condemnation after visiting victims of the attack, expressing shock and deep concern over what she termed a descent into brutality during a political process.
According to her, no democratic exercise should degenerate into violence, stressing that political differences must never translate into threats, intimidation, or physical harm.
“What happened was a stain on our collective commitment to peace, tolerance, and democratic engagement,” she stated, insisting that violence has no place in Nigeria’s politics.
Ibori-Suenu unequivocally denounced the attack and called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident. She urged them to identify, apprehend, and prosecute not only the perpetrators but also any sponsors behind the violence.
In a show of solidarity, the federal lawmaker announced that she has directed that all medical expenses of the injured victims be fully covered, assuring them of unwavering support during their recovery.
“We stand with them not only in words, but in action,” she affirmed.
The APC Ethiope West Congress was disrupted by violence that left several party members injured, raising concerns about internal party tensions and the broader implications for political stability in the area.
Observers say the incident underscores the urgent need for political actors to recommit to peaceful engagement as democratic processes continue across the country.
