Abuja-Lokoja Gridlock: FRSC boss orders deployment of additional officers, tow trucks
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed has ordered the deployment of additional officers and tow trucks along the Abuja–Lokoja Road to ease the ongoing traffic gridlock and ensure swift removal of obstructions.
He confirmed that the congestion is largely due to increased vehicular movement, ongoing construction points, as well as undisciplined and impatient drivers driving against traffic, and urged motorists traveling within this season to cooperate with personnel on duty for smooth traffic flow.
Motorists traveling on the Lokoja–Abuja highway have been stucked in a massive traffic jam, just days ahead of Christmas.
The gridlock, which has lasted for several hours, is reported to be worse around the Koton Karfe axis.
While some sources attribute the congestion to two trucks that fell on the highway, others say the slow pace of ongoing road rehabilitation is to blame.
Some commuters had to navigate dusty off-road routes to bypass the blockage.
Security personnel, especially additional officers from FRSC have been deployed to the area to help manage traffic and ease the congestion.
