The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced a probe into the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council in Delta State, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, and five other council officials over allegations of forgery and the illegal procurement of an unapproved ₦800 million loan from a commercial bank.

The investigation follows a petition dated January 8, 2026, submitted to the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate on January 14 by 15 councillors of the Bomadi Legislative Arm.

The petition accused the council chairman and his alleged allies of financial impropriety, abuse of office and recklessness.

According to the councillors, the loan was allegedly obtained without the constitutionally required approval of the Bomadi Legislative House, with claims that lawmakers’ signatures were forged to facilitate the transaction.

They described the alleged act as a serious breach of public trust and a financial crime capable of undermining grassroots governance.

Those named alongside Hon. Andaye include Hon. Doubra Wurukeseiye, Hon. John Tome, the Head of Personnel Management, Asu Eteku, the council Treasurer, Adibor Senior, and Hon. Porbeni Cletus.

The petition has also triggered a political crisis at the council, as the 15 councillors—out of a 20-member house—have reportedly issued an impeachment notice against the chairman. The notice has been forwarded to the Delta State House of Assembly, the Governor’s Office and security agencies.

The lawmakers further alleged that Hon. Andaye engaged in executive abuse of office and issued political threats, including allegedly invoking the governor’s name to intimidate dissenting councillors.

They warned that forgery is a grave offence under Nigerian law, carrying a possible jail term of up to 14 years, and urged the EFCC to investigate, recover the allegedly misappropriated funds and prosecute anyone found culpable.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had yet to issue an official statement, though a senior official of the commission confirmed receipt of the petition. Efforts to reach Hon. Andaye for comment were unsuccessful.
