Kano Police Arrest Three Over Murder of Woman, Six Children

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.

The arrests followed intelligence-led operations ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and carried out under the supervision of the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The suspects—Umar Auwalu (23) of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe (40) of Sagagi Quarters, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo (21) of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters—were apprehended during a sting operation conducted between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18, 2026.

Police said Umar Auwalu, identified as the ringleader and a nephew of the deceased, confessed to the crime. He also reportedly admitted that the group was responsible for other violent attacks in Kano, including the killing of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters.

Items recovered from the suspects include bloodstained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club, and cash believed to have been taken from the crime scene. Investigations are ongoing.

The Kano State Police Command commended the officers involved and thanked members of the public for their cooperation, assuring residents of its commitment to bringing perpetrators of crime to justice.
