The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has once again demonstrated its vigilance and commitment to national safety and child protection with the interception of a suspected child trafficking operation in Nyanya, Abuja.

On Saturday, January 17, 2026, operatives of the FRSC Nyanya Unit Command, during a routine afternoon patrol, intercepted a white Sharon vehicle with registration number SHD 253 YU at the Building Materials axis of Nyanya. The vehicle, driven by Mr. Nanle John (36), was traveling from Shendam, Plateau State, to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Suspicion was raised when the patrol team observed an unusually large number of passengers—17 young boys and girls—crammed inside the vehicle, with two additional minors concealed in the boot. The development immediately suggested a possible case of human trafficking.

The vehicle was promptly impounded and the Unit Commander informed. Preliminary questioning of the driver produced unsatisfactory explanations, leading to the involvement of relevant security authorities. In line with established inter-agency protocols, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mararaba Division, was contacted, and the driver, vehicle, and rescued children were formally handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.

Following the handover, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, ordered that the children be taken into protective custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, while directing a thorough investigation to uncover and dismantle any trafficking network linked to the incident.

Reacting to the interception, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, stated that the operation underscores the Corps’ broader role beyond traffic management. He noted that FRSC personnel are trained to remain vigilant, humane, and responsive to suspicious activities on Nigerian highways.

He further emphasized that while the FRSC does not have the statutory mandate to investigate human trafficking, its responsibility to protect lives, detect suspicious movements, and promptly alert appropriate authorities was professionally discharged in this case.

The Corps commended the swift response of the Nigeria Police Force and reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to vigilance, professionalism, and inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding lives across Nigeria’s roads.
