Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, on Wednesday embarked on an early-morning grassroots engagement across several Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his commitment to people-centred leadership and inclusive governance.

Obi disclosed that he began the outreach at 6:30 a.m., departing from his office in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) with the objective of engaging directly with residents at the grassroots level.

His first stop was Abaji Area Council, where he campaigned alongside Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate. During the visit, Obi undertook a one-hour walk through the community, interacting with residents, listening to their concerns, and stressing that effective leadership must remain accessible and firmly rooted in the realities of everyday people.

From Abaji, the former governor proceeded to Kwali Area Council to support Hon. Jeremiah Badoji, the ADC chairmanship candidate. Once again, Obi spent an hour walking through the area, engaging residents and emphasizing that leadership is built through presence, resilience and genuine connection with the people.

The grassroots tour continued to Zuba, where Obi rallied support for Pharmacist Iko Danjuma, the ADC chairmanship candidate for Gwagwalada Area Council. He later visited Deidei Market, one of Abuja’s major commercial hubs, where he interacted directly with traders and residents while campaigning for Dr. Moses Paul, the ADC chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

During the engagements, Obi reiterated his belief that leadership should not be distant or elitist, but driven by empathy, endurance and direct involvement in the lives of citizens. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development, stressing that progress must cut across communities, markets and all sectors of society.

The early-morning walk and community interactions underscored Obi’s continued emphasis on grassroots mobilisation and people-oriented politics, a style he has consistently promoted as essential for sustainable national development.
