Tinubu Orders Army Battalion to Kaiama After Deadly Boko Haram Attack in Kwara

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Worro community, which claimed the lives of several villagers.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President directed that the new military formation will spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, a security initiative aimed at checkmating terrorist activities and safeguarding vulnerable communities in the area.

President Tinubu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly, barbaric and heartless, noting that the gunmen deliberately targeted defenceless civilians in their failed campaign of terror. He expressed particular outrage that the victims were killed for resisting the terrorists’ attempt to indoctrinate them with extremist ideology.

The President commended the courage of the community members who, despite being Muslims, rejected violent extremism and chose to practice a peaceful form of Islam rooted in dialogue and coexistence.

“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” Tinubu said.

He further directed enhanced collaboration between federal and state security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice, while also calling for urgent humanitarian support and relief for affected residents.

President Tinubu prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, as well as to the people and government of Kwara State.The federal government, he assured, remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives, defeating terrorism, and ensuring that such atrocities do not go unpunished.
