Spurs Sack Thomas Frank After Newcastle Defeat

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank following a 2–1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday night, a result that deepened the club’s Premier League crisis and left them languishing in 16th place.

The North London club confirmed the decision in an official statement released on Wednesday, announcing an immediate change in the men’s head coach position.

“The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” the statement read.

Frank, who was appointed in June 2025 after replacing Ange Postecoglou, had signed a contract running until 2028. Spurs said they were initially committed to giving the Danish manager time and support to rebuild the team, but deteriorating performances and poor results forced the board’s hand.

“Results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary,” the club stated, while thanking Frank for his professionalism and dedication.

The defeat to Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium proved decisive amid mounting pressure from supporters and growing fears of a relegation battle. Tottenham have failed to win any of their eight league matches in 2026 and now sit just five points above the drop zone.

Frank leaves with a troubling record of seven wins, eight draws, and 11 defeats in 26 league matches — a win rate of 26.9 percent. Home form was particularly alarming, with only two league victories in 13 matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The club is now expected to move swiftly to appoint a successor as it fights to steer clear of relegation and salvage a turbulent campaign.
