Adeyanju Demands Probe of El-Rufai
Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately investigate former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over allegations of corruption and his administration’s handling of insecurity while in office.
In a strongly worded statement, Adeyanju insisted that no public official should be above the law, urging anti-graft and security agencies not to be deterred by what he described as attempts at blackmail or intimidation.
“I call on the EFCC and the DSS to immediately investigate former Governor Nasir El-Rufai over allegations of corruption and his handling of insecurity during his time in office. No one should be above the law,” he stated.
Adeyanju said any questions surrounding financial misconduct, abuse of office, or controversial security decisions taken during El-Rufai’s tenure must be thoroughly examined in the interest of justice and transparency.
He also questioned what he described as claims of political persecution by the former governor, alleging that El-Rufai’s administration was repeatedly accused of silencing dissenting voices. According to him, several critics of the government — including activists, religious leaders and public commentators — were reportedly arrested, harassed or intimidated.
The activist further referenced the unresolved disappearance of a prominent critic who was allegedly abducted in front of his family, describing it as a “painful reminder” that should not be ignored.
Adeyanju additionally called on the DSS to investigate reports of controversial security arrangements under the former governor, including allegations that payments were made to violent actors as part of efforts to manage insecurity.
“These are serious issues that go to the heart of national security. For the sake of justice and accountability, both he and anyone found culpable must be thoroughly investigated,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, El-Rufai had not publicly responded to the allegations.
