Adeyanju Salutes Sowore’s Courage at 55
Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has paid glowing tribute to fellow activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, as he marks his 55th birthday, describing him as a foremost defender of the oppressed and a relentless advocate for justice in Nigeria.
In a statement made available to the media, Adeyanju praised Sowore’s unwavering commitment to human rights, accountability, and democratic ideals, noting that his activism has consistently placed principle above personal comfort.
“Today, I celebrate Omoyele Sowore at 55 as a foremost human rights activist and a relentless defender of the oppressed and the vulnerable,” Adeyanju stated. “Over the years, I have watched him continuously choose his principles over comfort by challenging injustice and demanding accountability from those in power.”
Adeyanju highlighted the personal sacrifices Sowore has endured in the course of his activism, including arrests, prolonged detention, and multiple court cases, stressing that such experiences underscore his resilience and dedication to reform.
“In a country like Nigeria, where speaking up often comes at a high cost, this kind of courage is intentional and rooted in a genuine belief that Nigeria can be better,” he added.
The activist-lawyer emphasized that Sowore’s journey serves as a reminder that meaningful reform requires persistence and sacrifice. He noted that despite the challenges, Sowore has remained steadfast in his advocacy for the common man and the downtrodden.
Adeyanju concluded by celebrating not only Sowore’s 55 years of life but also his enduring commitment to justice and social change, wishing him continued strength in his pursuit of a better Nigeria.
“Happy birthday, Omoyele Sowore,” he said.
