BudgIT Condemns Brutal Attack on Katsina State Officer, Mustapha Sadiq
BudgIT has condemned the violent and inhumane attack on one of its Katsina State Officers, Mustapha Sadiq, who was assaulted in his residence in Katsina by armed assailants.
BudgIT in a statement Signed by its Country Director Vahyala Kwaga disclosed that Preliminary reports indicate that in the late hours of April 4, 2026, five men armed with machetes forcefully gained entry into his home and inflicted severe injuries to his head and upper body.
According to him, the attackers reportedly attempted to steal his vehicle but were unsuccessful, adding that, the incident left Mustapha with critical injuries, requiring urgent medical attention.
“This shocking act of violence is deeply troubling and entirely unacceptable. While investigations are ongoing, it remains unclear whether the attack is linked to his professional role in tracking public projects and promoting accountability. However, the brutality and nature of the assault raise grave concerns about the safety of citizens, particularly those engaged in civic and accountability work.
“BudgIT is treating this matter with the highest level of urgency. A formal complaint has been filed with the Nigerian Police, and we will actively engage all relevant security agencies to ensure that those responsible are swiftly identified and brought to justice. We call for a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation, including an examination of any possible connection to his civic engagement in a challenging and increasingly restrictive environment.
“We urge the appropriate authorities to take decisive and proactive measures to strengthen the safety and security of citizens. Incidents of this nature erode public trust and must not be allowed to go unchecked.
“Our thoughts are with Mustapha and his family during this difficult time. We wish him a full and speedy recovery and reaffirm our unwavering support as he undergoes treatment and recuperation.” He added.
