FIRS confirms inferno at Abuja office, launches probe
THE Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has confirmed that a fire incident occurred at one of its offices in Abuja, reassuring the public that no lives were lost.
In a statement issued by the agency’s management, the inferno broke out on the morning of Saturday, 20 December 2025, at the FIRS office located at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Federal Capital Territory.
The fire reportedly started on the fourth floor of the building but was swiftly detected and tackled by security personnel on duty. Emergency responders from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, alongside other response agencies, arrived promptly and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the facility.
Confirming the development, FIRS stated that “the fire was promptly responded to by our security personnel on duty, with the swift support of the FCT Fire Service and other emergency responders, leading to its successful containment.”
While no casualties were recorded, the agency disclosed that several offices on the affected floor sustained damage. The extent of the losses is yet to be fully determined.
FIRS further revealed that investigations into the cause of the inferno have commenced, with preliminary findings pointing to a possible electrical fault. The service added that a comprehensive review of its internal safety and emergency protocols is underway to prevent future occurrences.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire has commenced, with preliminary assessments suggesting an electrical fault. All internal safety protocols are being thoroughly reviewed and strengthened,” the statement added.
The management of the Federal Inland Revenue Service expressed appreciation to the emergency responders for their swift intervention and assured taxpayers and stakeholders that appropriate measures are being taken to ensure the safety of staff, facilities, and critical records.
