Man Utd appoints Darren Fletcher after sacking Ruben Amorim
Darren Fletcher has been appointed interim boss for Wednesday’s fixture against Burnley.
Yesterday Amorim stressed he is Manchester United’s manager rather than just the coach during a fiery press conference that saw him raise doubts over his future before telling the scouting network and sporting director “to do their job”.
Sacked Amorim was in charge of the club for 14 months but leaves following a breakdown in relations within their football department.
Manchester United currently sits sixth in the Premier League.
In a statement, United said: “The club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”

Amorim’s comments came at the end of a week when reports emerged that figures behind the scenes had questioned his tactical approach, including head of recruitment Christopher Vivell.
It was also said that his dialogue with director of football Jason Wilcox had become more fraught of late.
The 40-year-old had alluded to frustration behind the scenes in the build-up to the Leeds United match as the United boss refused to clarify his recent comments about the club’s transfer plans.
He had looked downbeat when he sidestepped those questions but was more forthcoming when asked on Sunday if he still felt he had confidence from the board.
