AFCON 2025: Wilfred Ndidi offers to pay Super Eagles match bonuses

Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Wilfred Ndidi has offered to offset the match bonuses of the players if the Federal Government should fail to do so before Saturday.

Ndidi made the commitment following protest by Super Eagles players to boycott the quarter final encounter against Algeria on Saturday in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“I have been pushing the team to train and play the game against Algeria. I have been doing this since the second game.

“I have now made a commitment to the staff and players that I will personally pay the bonuses if the authority fails before Saturday.

“I don’t want this unpaid bonuses to affect our preparations. I told players and coaching staff that I will personally make the payments if they don’t get it,” Ndidi was quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, following Ndidi’s intervention, the Super Eagles have now arrived in Marrakech ahead of their high-profile 2025 AFCON quarter-final clash against Algeria’s Desert Foxes.

The team landed at the Marrakech-Menara Airport at about 4.14 p.m. on Thursday after a one hour, 14 minutes flight from Fès–Saïs Airport.

The Eagles are camped at the Savoy Le Grand Hotel, Marrakech, where players and officials will stay throughout their assignment.

The Eagles are billed to train at the Grande Stade Annex 2 from 6 p.m., although the time remains tentative.

The Super Eagles will face the Desert Foxes of Algeria in one of the AFCON 2025 quarter-final fixtures at the Stade de Marrakech on Saturday from 5 p.m.
