EFCC, NASRDA Seal Collaboration Pact
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on Thursday, January 15, 2026, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, particularly in investigations, asset tracking and fraud risk assessment.
The MoU was signed at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
Speaking at the event, EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, described the agreement as a clear demonstration of the power of collaboration among government agencies, noting that synergy would enhance efficiency and ease the accomplishment of statutory mandates.
He explained that the MoU clearly outlined the responsibilities of both agencies and disclosed that a special monitoring and implementation team would be constituted to ensure effective execution and periodic review of the agreement.
Olukoyede said NASRDA would provide advanced technology to boost the EFCC’s investigative capacity, particularly in asset tracking and surveillance, while the EFCC would support NASRDA through fraud risk assessment expertise.
According to him, the collaboration would significantly enhance the Commission’s ability to investigate illegal mining activities and monitor recovered assets scattered across the country using geospatial technology and asset-tagging devices.
“In areas where our physical presence is limited, NASRDA’s technology will enable us to see and monitor effectively,” he said, adding that transparency and accountability in asset management remained a core mandate of the EFCC.
In his remarks, NASRDA Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, describing the MoU as a major step toward strengthening justice delivery and regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s space ecosystem.
He warned that satellite assets were sometimes exploited to fuel insecurity, including illegal mining, stressing the need for strict regulation across the upstream, mainstream and downstream segments of the space sector.
Adepoju noted that EFCC was the ideal partner for enforcing compliance and curbing the misuse of satellite-based information, particularly in relation to natural resource exploitation.
He commended the EFCC leadership for its efficiency and results, assuring that NASRDA would fully deploy its space regulation and spectrum management mandate to support asset management, tracking, and geo-tagging of both movable and immovable assets under the agreement.
