The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) to enhance transparency, accountability, and integrity in Nigeria’s extractive sector.

Dr. Aliyu gave the assurance while receiving the Executive Secretary and senior management of NEITI during a courtesy visit to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday. He described the relationship between both institutions as strategic and built on mutual respect, noting that the partnership is vital to ensuring Nigeria’s natural resources are managed with the highest standards of integrity.

The ICPC Chairman said NEITI remains a critical ally in the fight against systemic corruption in the oil, gas, and mining sectors, explaining that NEITI’s audit reports provide data-driven insights needed to identify revenue leakages and support effective preventive and enforcement actions.

He highlighted the establishment of the Special Extractive Industry Desk within the ICPC as a major outcome of the partnership, noting that the desk enables the Commission to act directly on NEITI’s audit findings and translate reports into concrete remedial actions.

Dr. Aliyu outlined areas for expanded cooperation, including real-time data exchange on illicit financial flows, joint system reviews in the solid minerals sector, and joint training programmes for investigators and auditors. He stressed that Nigerians expect the country’s natural wealth to drive national development, adding that the ICPC-NEITI partnership remains a key instrument in meeting this expectation.

Earlier, NEITI Executive Secretary, Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar, said transparency alone is insufficient without strong preventive mechanisms and accountability, especially in high-risk sectors. He noted that the visit was timely as Nigeria prepares for the 2026 Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Validation exercise.

Hon. Sarkin Adar said NEITI seeks continued collaboration with the ICPC to ensure its reports are used for preventive actions, enforcement where necessary, and monitoring of remedial measures. He added that strengthening the partnership would significantly reduce corruption risks, improve sector governance, and safeguard Nigeria’s extractive resources for sustainable development.
