Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested ten suspects over alleged illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis of Kwara State.

The arrest, which took place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, followed credible intelligence on unlawful excavation and transportation of solid minerals across parts of Kwara and Oyo States.

The suspects—nine truck drivers and one escort—were apprehended during a coordinated sting operation. Solid minerals recovered from them include lithium, tin, and lepidolite, all allegedly mined without the requisite licences, permits, or regulatory approvals.

Also seized were several trucks conveying the illegally mined minerals.

This development was disclosed by the spokesperson of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale. The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
