NEDC Presents ₦244.06bn 2026 Budget, Records 100% Allocation Performance for 2025
The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has presented a proposed budget of ₦244,066,466,734.00 for the 2026 fiscal year, outlining plans to intensify infrastructural development, humanitarian support, socio-economic recovery, and institutional strengthening across the North-East region.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed G. Alkali, presented the budget proposal on Thursday before the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives. The session was chaired by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Special Duties, Barr. Kaka Shehu Lawan, SAN, and co-chaired by Chairman of the House Committee on NEDC, Hon. Usman Zanna.
During the session, Alkali also reviewed the Commission’s 2025 budget performance, revealing that the agency achieved 100 percent performance of the total allocation received, amounting to ₦131,836,332,912.00, and 59 percent of the total approved budget of ₦290,997,982,557.00.
Members of the Joint Committee commended the Commission for its impactful interventions, particularly in infrastructure development across the North-East, and reaffirmed their support for its mandate.
The lawmakers, however, urged the Commission to expand bursary and scholarship programmes to strengthen educational development and accelerate the region’s socio-economic recovery framework.
