ICPC Honours Outgoing POCD Director Grace Agha-Ibe at Retirement

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has celebrated Barr. Grace Agha-Ibe, fsi, as she retired from her role as Director of the Proceeds of Crime Department (POCD), marking the end of a distinguished 24-year career defined by discipline, integrity and mentorship.

The ceremony, which also coincided with her birthday, was organised by the Special Services Department (SSD) in recognition of her immense contributions to the Commission. Colleagues, friends and well-wishers gathered to honour what was widely described as a glorious and well-deserved exit.

Speaking at the event, Director of SSD, Prince Hassan Mohammed, described her retirement as the fulfilment of a remarkable career, noting that the blueprint she left behind would continue to sustain the department’s progress. Acting Director of POCD, Mr George Lawal, who has known her for 24 years, summed up her leadership style as “firm and fair,” commending her unwavering commitment to excellence.

Several colleagues shared personal reflections on her leadership, describing her as hardworking, meticulous, tough yet instructive, compassionate and deeply invested in staff development. They acknowledged her high standards and passion for thoroughness, noting that her mentorship shaped many careers within the Commission.

In her response, Barr. Agha-Ibe expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honour, admitting the emotional nature of the occasion. Reflecting on her journey, she attributed her achievements to God’s grace and encouraged staff to remain diligent, steadfast and committed to excellence.

She assured them that perseverance would always be rewarded and affirmed her resolve to continue contributing to national development even in retirement.
