ICPC Debunks Viral Claim of Justice Omotosho’s Arrest

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed as false and malicious a video circulating on social media claiming that the Commission arrested and is prosecuting Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission described the claim as entirely untrue and intended to mislead members of the public.

ICPC clarified that it has neither arrested nor invited Justice Omotosho in connection with any investigation.

“The Commission is also not investigating the Honourable Judge as alleged in the video,” the statement said.

The anti-corruption agency urged members of the public to disregard the misleading content and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary public concern and damaging reputations.

It further explained that, for the avoidance of doubt, the Commission does not have the mandate to investigate serving judicial officers.

The ICPC also reaffirmed its respect for Justice Omotosho and the judiciary as a whole.

“The Commission has very high regard not only for the Honourable Justice James Omotosho but for all judicial officers in Nigeria,” it added.

The agency reiterated its commitment to professionalism and due process in carrying out its statutory responsibilities, while advising the public to rely only on official communications from the Commission for accurate information about its activities.

ICPC also encouraged the public to verify the authenticity of information circulating on social media before sharing it.
