AGF Takes Over Prosecution as Court Adjourns IGP vs Abbo Case to April 20
Proceedings in the criminal case marked CR/635/24 between the Inspector General of Police and former lawmaker Ishaku Elisha Abbo, alongside Nafisa Mohammed, were on Monday adjourned by the High Court of the FCT, Gwagwalada following a major development in the prosecution of the matter.
The case, presided over by Justice I. Mohammed in Court 49, came up for cross-examination, with all parties present and represented by counsel.
AGF Formally Takes Over Case
At the commencement of proceedings, Director of Public Prosecution, Rotimi I. Oyedepo (SAN), informed the court that the case had been formally taken over by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
Oyedepo told the court that a formal request had already been made for the complete record of proceedings to enable the Federal Government’s legal team review the case file thoroughly and ensure effective prosecution.
According to him, the application for adjournment was necessary to allow sufficient time to obtain and study the records.
Defence Raises No Objection
Counsel to the first defendant, M. J. Numa (SAN), along with counsel for the second defendant, indicated that they did not oppose the prosecution’s request, describing it as reasonable under the circumstances.
Other members of the prosecution team present included M. A. Oladujoye (ACSC), C. L. Asonta, and E. A. Ehimuan, while Ayougu-Eze Steven and K. O. Otumala held a watching brief for the nominal complainant.
Court Grants Adjournment
After considering submissions from all parties, Justice Mohammed granted the application and adjourned the case to April 20, 2026, for continuation of cross-examination.
The adjournment follows the AGF’s intervention, a move that often signals heightened federal interest in the outcome of high-profile criminal proceedings.
