Oba of Lagos Backs EFCC’s Anti-Corruption Fight

The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Aremu Akiolu I, has pledged the full support of the traditional institution in Lagos to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its ongoing fight against corruption and financial crimes.

The monarch gave this assurance on Thursday, April 30, 2026, when he received the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, who led a delegation of senior officials on a courtesy visit to his palace.

Oba Akiolu described the visit as a demonstration of respect for the traditional institution and a reinforcement of shared values such as integrity, justice, and collaboration. He emphasized that the EFCC’s mission goes beyond administrative duty, describing it as a moral obligation critical to sustaining Lagos as a global economic hub.

He noted that corruption poses a serious threat to development and must be confronted with transparency and firm justice. While commending the EFCC for its sustained efforts, the monarch stressed the need for collective responsibility and strong institutions in winning the anti-corruption battle.

Pledging the support of the throne and the Council of Chiefs, he assured the Commission of continued cooperation in promoting accountability and ethical conduct across the state.

Earlier, Kaltungo expressed appreciation for the warm reception and conveyed the goodwill of the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. He described the visit as both symbolic and strategic, aimed at strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders.

He highlighted the vital role of traditional rulers in shaping societal values and fostering a culture of honesty and accountability, expressing confidence that such partnerships would further strengthen the fight against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
