The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has directed that an apology be extended to Professor Eyo Ekpe and members of the Nigerian Medical Association following the May 12, 2026 incident involving operatives of the Commission and medical personnel at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

In a statement issued by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the Commission said the decision followed the review of a preliminary report on the incident.

Olukoyede acknowledged the discomfort caused by the episode to hospital staff and members of the public, stressing that the wellbeing of Nigerians remains central to the Commission’s mandate.

He reiterated that a full investigation into the matter was ongoing and assured that any officer found to have breached the Commission’s professional code of conduct would face internal disciplinary action.

The EFCC Chairman also expressed commitment to engaging stakeholders to resolve all issues arising from the incident and prevent a recurrence.

He, however, maintained that the incident would not deter the Commission from carrying out its anti-corruption mandate across the country.

Olukoyede further appealed to the NMA and other professional bodies to continue supporting the EFCC in the fight against economic and financial crimes as well as corruption in Nigeria.
