FRSC Gap Analysis Drives 56% Reduction in Dangote Truck Crashes Nationwide
The Dangote Group has commended the management of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for the remarkable success of its Safety System Gap Analysis conducted on Dangote Cement Transport operations in September 2025, following a significant reduction in crashes involving Dangote trucks across Nigeria.
The commendation was made during an appreciation visit to the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja by the Head of Transport, Dangote Group, Mr. Murillo Silva, alongside members of his team. During the visit, the delegation praised the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, for the professionalism, expertise, and strategic recommendations that have greatly transformed the company’s transport safety operations.
Speaking during the visit, Silva stated that the FRSC and Dangote Group share a common vision of making the nation’s transport sector safer and more efficient. According to him, the collaboration between both organisations is already yielding measurable and encouraging results.
He explained that the intervention by the FRSC has repositioned the Dangote fleet towards becoming a model for fleet management and road safety compliance, not only in Nigeria but across the African continent.
According to findings from the Safety System Gap Analysis earlier conducted by the FRSC, several operational shortcomings were identified within the company’s transport system. These included speed limiter violations, poor driver rest management, overloading, weak safety monitoring systems, and high crash exposure largely linked to human factors.
However, following the implementation of the recommendations provided by the Corps, comparative crash statistics between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 revealed remarkable improvements in the company’s safety performance.
Statistics presented during the review showed that crashes involving Dangote trucks reduced by 56 percent, dropping from 25 recorded cases in Q1 2025 to 11 cases in Q1 2026.
The report further indicated that fatal crashes declined by 36 percent, while the number of persons injured dropped by 52 percent from 89 to 42 within the same period.
Most significantly, deaths resulting from the crashes reduced by 60 percent, decreasing from 35 recorded deaths in 2025 to 14 deaths in 2026.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the outcome as a clear demonstration that strategic partnerships, data-driven interventions, and strong institutional collaboration remain critical to improving road safety and saving lives on Nigerian roads.
He commended the Dangote management for embracing professional scrutiny and implementing key safety reforms aimed at improving operational standards and protecting lives.
The Corps Marshal noted that sustained compliance with the FRSC recommendations could position Dangote Group as one of the safest fleet operators in Africa.
He also urged other fleet operators and transport companies across the country to emulate the Dangote example by adopting proactive safety measures capable of reducing crashes and improving transport safety standards nationwide.
The development is being seen as a major milestone in the ongoing efforts by the FRSC to strengthen road safety compliance among corporate fleet operators and reduce the alarming rate of road traffic crashes in Nigeria.
The partnership between the FRSC and Dangote Group is also expected to serve as a model for public-private sector collaboration in promoting safer roads, responsible fleet management, and the protection of lives and property across the country.
