2027: Okpe Group lauds Oborevwori’s Achievements, Back second Term Bid
..Seeks Support of all Deltans
Okpe Peoples’ Forum, OPF, a pan Okpe socio-political and cultural organisation has listed the achievements of Governor of Delta state, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori in three years and declared its support for his re-election in 2027.
The OPF congratulated Oborevwori for sustaining development efforts to mark three years in office and for emerging as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 gubernatorial elections in the state.
The group similarly lauded the ruling party for its cohesion and for unanimously electing the governor during its recent governorship primary exercise in the state.
In a statement on Thursday signed by Comrade Igho Akeregha, President and Pastor Edward Emoyadua Agba, Secretary, the group expressed confidence in the leadership and people-oriented service of the governor culminating in unprecedented infrastructure development across the state.
“In just three years in office, the Okpe people and indeed many Deltans are satisfied that Oborevwori has surpassed expectation for his tireless commitment to rapid transformation of the state. And for this, we express our appreciation and support for him to be re-elected in 2027 to finish his good work”.
The group noted that at the onset of the administration, Oborevwori outlined his vision for the state through his M.O.R.E agenda. This vision, encompassing meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic reforms and enduring peace and security in the state is a multi pronged development initiative aimed at evolving a modern state tailored to meet the needs of Deltans.
The Okpe group expressed satisfaction that the governor has made significant progress on the set objectives. It commended other ethnic groups in the state for their support for the governor in the last three years and appealed for their continuous cooperation to re-elect him for a second term in 2027.
The OPF said it is confident that Oborevwori will fully achieve a total transformation of the state for the benefit of all if he is re-elected next year.
Akeregha and Agba listed the key achievements of the Oborevwori administration in three years to include massive infrastructural development, extensive youth and SME empowerment, healthcare upgrades and educational expansion.
Infrastructure and urban renewal of the administration includes construction of flyovers, expansive road networks and slipways in the Warri/Effurun metropolis to ease traffic congestion and completion of numerous road projects and bridges across the 25 Local Government Areas in the state.
A state-of-the-art five-story High Court Complex was completed by the administration in Asaba to ease judicial administration while it also upscaled capacity of Deltans through a comprehensive economic empowerment and social investment programme.
To boost economic activities and tackle poverty, the group noted that the Oborevwori administration disbursed financial grants to thousands of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and skilled workers. It also
expanded the state’s COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus through D-CARES, Delta Cares. This program is supporting hundreds of thousands of vulnerable persons with cash and direct aid.
In healthcare, the government approved the rehabilitation of 150 Primary Health Centers, attracting recognition and funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The state is currently Implementing free maternal care for pregnant women and free medical care for children up to age five.
The Okpe group further noted that within the period, the administration upgraded secondary and tertiary institutions—such as DELSUTH Oghara with modern equipment like MRI and CT scanners.
The group said education and human capital development similarly received a boost with regular payment of bursaries to over 32,000 Delta State students in higher institutions nationwide. Institutional funding was increased along with infrastructural upgrades across colleges of health, midwifery and universities in the state.
The group stated that Delta retains the status of being the only state in Nigeria with four fully funded state-owned university thus facilitating access to quality tertiary education for many Deltans and Nigerians.
The statement further noted that the state is currently rated as one of the most peaceful in the country and this has fostered an investor-friendly climate, significantly reducing unrest and earning multiple Governor of the Year awards including from Leadership and New Telegraph newspapers for inclusive, people-focused governance.
Akeregha and Agba specifically singled out Oborevwori for his prudent financial management and disclosed that the governor ensured that Delta state did not borrow a dime in the last three years and diligently serviced the state debts and significantly reduced its indebtedness margins.
While commending him for recognising and addressing the unique challenges of a complex and multi ethnic state, the group urged the governnor to utilise his second term of office to pay attention to resolving other development gaps in the state.
The group identified some of the areas requiring attention to include electricity supply shortfall, food security, industrialisation and unemployment.
