The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reinforced its commitment to building a technology-driven transport system, with Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed joining Abbas Tajuddeen on a high-level official visit to Egypt to advance the implementation of Nigeria’s Smart National Transport Databank Project.

The visit to Cairo marked a major step in the execution of the initiative following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and Asia Arab Investment (AAI) in Abuja on June 15, 2026.

The Nigerian delegation, led by Speaker Abbas, included the FRSC Corps Marshal, NITT Director-General and Chief Executive, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Olufunso Olusesan Adebiyi, and other senior government officials.

According to the FRSC, the Smart National Transport Databank Project is designed to establish a comprehensive national transport database that will provide reliable, real-time information for transport planning, infrastructure development, regulatory oversight, enforcement operations, crash analysis and evidence-based policy formulation.

Speaking during the visit, the Corps Marshal described the initiative as a transformative national asset capable of redefining road safety management in Nigeria. He said access to integrated transport data would significantly enhance the Corps’ operational capacity through improved crash prediction, traffic management, strategic deployment of personnel and resources, compliance monitoring and service delivery.

He added that the project reflects the future of transport governance, where innovation, accurate data and institutional collaboration drive safer roads and more efficient transportation systems.

A major highlight of the engagement was the unveiling of proposed Driver Training and Development Centres to be established across Nigeria by ARCORP Egypt in partnership with FRSC and NITT under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

The centres are expected to improve the quality of driver education, promote professionalism among motorists, strengthen capacity development and contribute to reducing road traffic crashes nationwide.

Speaker Abbas reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to providing the legislative backing required for the successful implementation of the project, stressing its importance to Nigeria’s economic growth, digital transformation and infrastructure development.

The Cairo engagement also underscored Nigeria’s determination to strengthen international partnerships and deploy cutting-edge technologies to modernise the transport sector while accelerating the delivery of the Smart National Transport Databank Project.

The statement was signed by Osondu Ohaeri, FNIPR, FCAI, Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps Headquarters.
