Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media linking him to an alleged attack on a Director in the Ministry of Higher Education who reportedly later died in hospital.

Tonukari, in a statement issued in response to the allegation, described the report as “malicious and unfounded,” insisting that he neither authorised, sponsored nor had any involvement in any attack on the said individual.

The Commissioner said he was compelled to respond after his attention was drawn to reports alleging that he directed some persons to attack the Director.

He categorically dissociated himself from the alleged incident, stressing that the accusation was completely false.

According to him, it was reckless and irresponsible for such a grave allegation to be circulated without credible evidence or proper verification.

Tonukari further alleged that the attempt to link him to the incident was malicious and intended to damage his reputation and distract him from his responsibilities as Commissioner for Higher Education.

He urged members of the public to disregard the allegation and rely only on credible and verifiable information regarding the matter.

“I remain focused on my duties and will not be distracted by attempts to malign my person or office,” the Commissioner stated.

The statement comes amid growing circulation of allegations on social media concerning the reported attack and death of the Director.

Tonukari, however, did not provide further details about the alleged incident or identify those behind the social media reports.

Mo Media Headlines could not independently verify the allegations at the time of filing this report.
