FRSC Recovers Vehicle Stolen in 2015 in Ebonyi
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a Toyota Camry reported stolen in 2015, eleven years after the incident, in Ebonyi State.
The recovery followed a routine verification exercise at the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Desk Office on March 24, 2026, when a Motor Licensing Authority (MLA) official from the Board of Internal Revenue presented documents for the vehicle’s registration.
According to the FRSC, the NVIS Desk Officer flagged irregularities during the verification process. Further checks revealed that the vehicle was originally registered to Mr. Adeka Emmanuel Akoji, who confirmed that it had been stolen from him in Benue State on August 13, 2015.
Following the discovery, the FRSC alerted the Nigeria Police, prompting a coordinated operation. On March 27, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Abakaliki recovered the vehicle.
The recovered Toyota Camry saloon was initially registered with the number MKD659AG but had been re-registered with a new plate number, NKE500AE, in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity.
The FRSC said the recovery highlights the effectiveness of its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), which is designed to track, verify, and help recover stolen vehicles across the country.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the professionalism of the officers involved and the cooperation of the Nigeria Police, stressing that the Corps will continue to deploy technology and intelligence-driven strategies to curb vehicle-related crimes.
The FRSC also advised motorists and vehicle buyers to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicles through the NVIS platform before purchase or registration as enforcement operations intensify nationwide.
