Rex Ogboru Raises Alarm Over Second Attack On Campaign Poster In Abraka
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Abraka State Constituency in the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly election, Hon. Rex Enajite Ogboru, has raised the alarm over the repeated destruction of his campaign poster, describing the incidents as disturbing and calling for a thorough investigation by security agencies.
Ogboru, in a statement addressed to the people of Abraka and Delta State, disclosed that his campaign poster had been destroyed for the second time, expressing concern over what he described as a threat to peaceful political participation and democratic rights.
The NDC candidate called on security agencies to identify those responsible for the incidents and ensure that they are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
He stressed that elections should be driven by ideas, policies, achievements and concrete plans for improving the lives of the electorate, rather than acts capable of creating tension among political supporters.
According to him, political parties, particularly those already in government, should present their records of performance and allow the electorate to assess their achievements against the alternatives being offered by opposition candidates.
Ogboru argued that the prevailing conditions in Abraka raised serious questions about governance and development in the constituency, insisting that the attention of politicians should be focused on addressing the challenges confronting residents rather than destroying campaign materials.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the NDC to peaceful and issue-based campaigns, declaring that his party would not resort to violence or allow the alleged attacks to distract it from its mission to secure what he described as the restoration of Abraka.
“Nobody has a monopoly on violence, and that is precisely why we must all reject violence and allow the law to take its course,” Ogboru stated, while urging political actors and their supporters to embrace peace and democratic competition.
He, however, maintained that the people of Abraka deserved a political environment in which every candidate could freely present ideas and programmes without intimidation.
The NDC candidate further shifted attention to what he described as the pressing developmental challenges facing the constituency, including the condition of public schools, poor road infrastructure, inadequate skills-acquisition opportunities and the lack of meaningful employment for young people.
He expressed concern over reports that some pupils were forced to sit on classroom floors while receiving lessons, arguing that the state of education, roads and youth empowerment should dominate political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Abraka needs answers, not excuses. Our people need development, not intimidation. Our youths need opportunities, not empty promises,” he declared.
Ogboru called for a new generation of leadership anchored on accountability, quality education, good roads, youth empowerment, security and sustainable development, urging residents not to allow the destruction of campaign materials to provoke them into confrontation.
He appealed to his supporters and the general public to remain calm, peaceful and resolute, insisting that the campaign would continue to mobilise voters through lawful and democratic means.
The NDC candidate also urged the electorate to use the 2027 general elections to demand accountability and vote for leaders capable of delivering tangible development to the constituency.
Reaffirming his party’s political message, Ogboru called on voters to support the NDC across electoral levels, declaring: “Vote APC out. Vote NDC in from top to bottom!”
He concluded with the campaign slogan, “Operation Rexcue Abraka 2027: The Restoration Mission Has Begun!”, describing the initiative as a mission to reposition Abraka for improved representation and development.
The statement was signed by Hon. Rex Enajite Ogboru, NDC candidate for Abraka State Constituency, under the message: “Qualitative Representation to the People.”
