EFCC Seeks Stronger Partnership with Customs to Tackle Financial Crimes

The Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Adebayo Adeniyi, has called for enhanced collaboration between the Commission and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to combat economic and financial crimes.

Adeniyi made the call during a courtesy visit to the Zonal Coordinator of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, Assistant Comptroller-General Mohammed Babandede, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

He described the NCS as a critical stakeholder in the fight against economic and financial crimes, stressing that sustained collaboration between both agencies was key to dismantling criminal networks undermining the nation’s economy.

According to him, the EFCC places high value on strategic partnerships with sister agencies, noting that intelligence sharing, joint operations, data analysis, information exchange and watch-listing of suspects would further strengthen the fight against financial crimes.

In his response, Babandede commended the EFCC for its efforts in curbing economic and financial crimes and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to supporting the Commission’s mandate.

He stated that the NCS would continue to work closely with the EFCC to curb smuggling, revenue leakages and other forms of economic sabotage, adding that such collaboration was essential to achieving a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
