ICPC, NBA Anti-Corruption Committee Seal Strategic Partnership
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Corruption Committee (NBA-ACC) to strengthen the fight against corruption and promote ethical standards within the legal profession.
The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja. A second MoU was also signed between the NBA-ACC and the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), the research and training arm of the ICPC, to enhance institutional and human capacity development.
Speaking at the ceremony, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, described the collaboration as a deliberate response to the urgent need for collective action against corruption. He noted that while corruption thrives where institutions operate in isolation, integrity flourishes through partnerships.
According to him, the MoU represents a strategic alliance founded on shared values such as the rule of law, professional ethics, accountability and service to the Nigerian public. He added that the framework would harmonise enforcement with prevention, capacity building, public enlightenment and ethical re-orientation to achieve sustainable results.
Dr. Aliyu further highlighted the synergy between the NBA, as the custodian of legal professionalism, and the ICPC, as a statutory anti-corruption agency, stressing that their collaboration is vital to strengthening the justice system and restoring public confidence in governance. He also underscored the role of ACAN in providing education, research and skills development to support long-term anti-corruption efforts.
Chairman of the NBA Anti-Corruption Committee, Professor Babafemi A. Badejo, described the MoUs as a decisive step towards building strong institutions anchored on integrity. He explained that the agreement with the ICPC would promote ethical conduct within the legal profession, enhance capacity, raise public awareness and support policy reforms, while the partnership with ACAN would focus on education, training and research through structured curricula and specialised programmes.
Both the ICPC and the NBA-ACC expressed confidence that the collaboration would significantly advance integrity, transparency, accountability and the rule of law in Nigeria.
