FRSC Secures 2-Month Jail Term for One-Way Driver in Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crackdown
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured a two-month jail sentence without the option of fine against a traffic offender arrested for driving against traffic along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The conviction, handed down by the Ojodu-Abiodun Magisterial District Court, followed a special joint intervention patrol launched on February 10, 2026, to curb the alarming surge in one-way driving along the Kara–Opic axis of the busy corridor.
The enforcement operation was initiated in response to heightened traffic violations linked to ongoing bridge expansion joint construction works on both the inward and outward sections of the expressway. Authorities said the illegal practice of driving against traffic had escalated dangerously, increasing the risk of fatal crashes.
During the coordinated patrol, officers intercepted Koko Moses, driver of a Volkswagen bus with registration number MUS 89 YG, while driving against the flow of traffic. Further checks revealed that he was also operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
The offender was immediately charged to court by the Divisional Police Officer of Warewa Police Station, CSP Ayegbede John. Upon arraignment, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment without the option of fine, underscoring the judiciary’s firm stance against reckless driving and traffic impunity.
The joint operation was spearheaded by the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, in collaboration with the Ogun State Sector Command led by Corps Commander Akinwumi Fasakin. The enforcement team also comprised officers of the Nigeria Police (Warewa, Ojodu-Abiodun and Isheri Divisions), the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), and the Nigerian Army.
Officers were strategically deployed at identified flashpoints notorious for one-way driving and other traffic violations. According to FRSC, the intervention has already resulted in a noticeable reduction in infractions along the corridor, highlighting the effectiveness of sustained inter-agency collaboration.
Commending the synergy among participating agencies, the Corps leadership reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for traffic violations that endanger lives. Motorists were urged to comply with traffic regulations, especially around construction zones, and to cooperate with traffic management officials.
The FRSC assured road users that similar enforcement operations will continue across critical corridors nationwide as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and protect lives.
