Ekwerekwu Urges Igbo Youths to Embrace Progressive Politics, Backs Obi Cubana’s Appointment
The Director-General of the Coalition of Igbo Youth Leaders in Nigeria, Hon. Dr. Wilson Ekwerekwu, has called on Igbo youths at home and in the diaspora to embrace progressive politics and shun divisive tendencies, describing active engagement as the surest path to sustainable relevance in national affairs.
Dr. Ekwerekwu, who also serves as State Secretary of the City Boy Movement, Anambra State Chapter, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has created opportunities for regional inclusion, economic reform and youth-driven enterprise. He stressed that the Southeast must strategically position itself to maximise these gains.
A media personality and Chief Executive Officer of Code 9 International, Ekwerekwu noted that political maturity, unity and structured participation would better prepare Igbo youths to benefit from ongoing national reforms.
He specifically highlighted the appointment of Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, as Southeast Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, describing it as a strategic move aimed at grassroots mobilisation and youth empowerment.
According to him, Obi Cubana’s emergence signals a deliberate effort to align enterprise, culture and political coordination to deepen regional participation.
“Chief Obinna Iyiegbu’s appointment is strategic, not symbolic. It converts influence into organised mobilisation that will benefit Southeast youths,” Ekwerekwu said.
He added that unity, disciplined engagement and constructive partnership with the centre would deliver greater dividends than sectional rhetoric, urging stakeholders to consolidate support for initiatives that promote economic opportunity and national cohesion.
Ekwerekwu reaffirmed that the Southeast remains pivotal to Nigeria’s development and called for collective efforts to ensure that the Renewed Hope Agenda translates into tangible benefits for young people across the region.
