Abraka, Delta State — August 25, 2026

Hon. Rex Enajite Ogboru has emerged as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Abraka State Constituency ahead of the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly election.

Ogboru’s emergence followed the party’s primary election in the constituency, where he secured the NDC ticket to represent the people of Abraka in the Delta State House of Assembly.

His emergence is expected to significantly reshape the political contest in Abraka and the wider Ethiope East Local Government Area, as the 2027 elections gradually take centre stage across Delta State.

The development also marks another chapter in Ogboru’s political journey. He previously contested the Delta State House of Assembly election in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), according to records published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

A return to the Assembly race

Ogboru is not new to the struggle for legislative representation in Ethiope East. In 2018, he publicly declared his intention to seek election into the Delta State House of Assembly, saying his ambition was driven by what he described as years of neglect of the constituency.

His political activities in Ethiope East have also included engagements with youths, women and party stakeholders across Abraka. In 2021, reports documented his interaction with youths from several wards in Abraka, where issues concerning political participation, representation and development were discussed.

More recently, Ogboru has remained politically active in Delta State and has spoken publicly on issues concerning democracy, constitutionalism and representation. In July 2026, he criticised the declaration of the Udu State Constituency seat vacant by the Delta State House of Assembly, arguing that the mandate of elected representatives should be protected in accordance with constitutional principles.

NDC ticket raises stakes in Abraka

Ogboru’s choice under the NDC platform is coming at a time of heightened political activity in Abraka, with political parties positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Recent public activity around the NDC in Abraka has included meetings involving party leaders, ward executives and party faithful, indicating growing organisational activity ahead of the elections.

His candidacy has also begun generating public reactions among supporters in Abraka, with recent social media posts describing him as a candidate capable of providing stronger representation for the constituency.

For Ogboru, the NDC ticket provides another opportunity to translate his longstanding political aspirations into an electoral mandate.

Focus now shifts to the 2027 election

With his emergence as the NDC candidate, attention will now shift to the party’s campaign strategy, grassroots mobilisation and ability to consolidate support across the various communities and wards that make up the constituency.

The contest is expected to focus heavily on issues of effective representation, infrastructure, youth development, education, employment, healthcare and the need for stronger advocacy for Abraka at the state level.

Abraka, widely recognised as a major academic, commercial and population centre in Ethiope East, has continued to face demands for improved infrastructure and greater government attention. The constituency’s political leadership will therefore come under intense scrutiny as residents prepare to make their choice in 2027.

Ogboru is expected to present his political programme to voters in the coming months as the NDC begins preparations for the general election.

His emergence has effectively positioned him as one of the major contenders in what is expected to be a keenly contested race for the Abraka State Constituency seat.

MO MEDIA HEADLINES will continue to monitor developments surrounding the NDC candidacy and the unfolding 2027 political contest in Abraka and Delta State.
