The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun(Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA, has given cultists in Aladja Community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State who were previously granted amnesty, until Wednesday, September 16, 2026, to formally renounce cultism and all acts of violence or face the full weightof the law.

The Chairman also directed the affected individuals, who are yet to sign their amnesty forms alongside their guarantors, to do so within the stipulated period or risk arrest and prosecution.

Oyibode, while issuing the directive, warned that anyone who fail to comply with the terms of the amnesty would have the full weight of the law brought to bear on them.

He said the amnesty was granted as an opportunity for the affected persons to turn a new leaf; abandon cult-related activities and embrace peace, but stressed that the gesture should not be misconstrued as a licence to return to violence or other criminal activities in the community and Udu Local Government Area in general.

According to him, the beneficiaries of the amnesty are expected to formally renounce their membership of their cult groups, sign the necessary amnesty documents, adhere to the terms of the amnesty and provide the required guarantors before the expiration of the deadline.

The Chairman warned that after Wednesday, September 16, security agencies would be directed to apprehend anyone who failed to comply with the conditions of the amnesty and ensure that the person faced the full wrath of the law.

It would be recalled that two rival cult groups, the Ayes and Vikings confraternities, allegedly engaged in a violent clash in Aladja Community, resulting in the loss of lives and heightened tension in the community.

Following the incident, members of the groups involved were reportedly chased out of the community as part of measures to restore peace and security.

However, after spending months away from the community, some of the affected persons reportedly approached the Udu Local Government Council Chairman and pleaded for an opportunity to repent, renounce cultism and return to the Community to live peacefully.

Moved by their appeals and commitment to reform, Oyibode granted them amnesty as part of his administration’s efforts to promote peace, security, rehabilitation and peaceful coexistence, one of the flanks of the administration of H.E. Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State.

The latest directive, however, makes it clear that the amnesty comes with conditions and responsibilities, including a formal renunciation of cultism and violence.

The Chairman urged community leaders, parents, guardians and other stakeholders in Aladja to support the peace process and ensure that the beneficiaries of the amnesty comply with the conditions attached to the gesture.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Udu, stressing that while his administration would continue to provide opportunities for genuine repentance and rehabilitation, it would not tolerate acts capable of threatening the lives and property of residents.

He,however, stated that members of the cult groups who have blatantly refused to come to the Council Secretariat to sign the document should not go to the community before or after the deadline of 16th September.
