Abraka 2027: Ibani Support Group Empowers 34 Market Women, 74 Pupils
…Targets 100 Beneficiaries, Awards Scholarships to 20 Children
The support group, Abraka United For Ibani, has intensified its grassroots empowerment initiative in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, with the distribution of N50,000 cash to 34 small-scale market women, while 74 schoolchildren have also received back-to-school materials.
The initiative, organised in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abraka State Constituency, Hon. Felix Ejovwoke Erhimedafe, popularly known as Ibani, is aimed at supporting women-owned businesses, easing family financial burdens and promoting access to education among children in the community.
Speaking during the latest round of the empowerment programme, the coordinator of Abraka United For Ibani, Chief Efe Don Kigho, the Achoja of Oruarivie Abraka Kingdom, disclosed that 34 market women had so far benefited from the N50,000 cash support, with a target of reaching 100 women.
Kigho said the initiative was designed to provide practical economic support to petty traders, enabling them to expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods and contribute more effectively to the upkeep and education of their children.
He assured the beneficiaries that the programme would continue until the target number of market women had been reached, emphasising the group’s commitment to extending the gesture to more traders across Abraka.
Beyond the cash empowerment for market women, Kigho revealed that the initiative had also extended to education, with 74 children receiving back-to-school packs containing schoolbags, books and writing materials.
He further disclosed that 20 children had been placed on full scholarships, while 40 children had received sandals as part of efforts to support their return to school and reduce the financial pressure on their families.
The Achoja described the education-focused intervention as an important component of the programme, noting that supporting children with essential learning materials and scholarships would help ease the burden on parents and encourage school attendance.
The latest disclosures indicate that the empowerment drive is extending beyond direct financial assistance to traders, with additional interventions targeting the educational welfare of children in Abraka.
Beneficiaries of the cash empowerment and educational support expressed appreciation for the gesture, which the organisers said would be sustained as the group works towards reaching more women and children.
The initiative comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 Abraka State Constituency election, following the restoration of the constituency.
While the programme is being implemented by Abraka United For Ibani in support of the APC candidate, its organisers say the intervention is focused on providing economic relief to market women and educational assistance to children in the community.
With 34 market women already receiving N50,000 each against a target of 100, alongside 74 children receiving educational support, the initiative has emerged as a notable feature of the group’s grassroots mobilisation and community engagement ahead of the 2027 election.
