ICPC, Immigration Service Strengthen Anti-Corruption Partnership in Kano
The Kano State Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Ahmad Muhammad Wada, Esq., has received the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kano Command, Tahir Ahmad Lawan, on a formal courtesy visit aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration in the fight against corruption.
The meeting, held on February 4, 2026, focused on reinforcing institutional partnerships to promote transparency, accountability, and efficient public service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Lawan said the engagement was designed to identify and consolidate strategic areas of cooperation between the NIS and the ICPC. He disclosed that the Immigration Service has embarked on wide-ranging modernisation initiatives to improve its operations, including the deployment of technology to enhance border security, installation of automated border control gates, and the implementation of the Diaspora Passport Initiative to ease passport renewal for Nigerians in the diaspora.
According to him, the technological innovations are not only intended to improve service delivery but also to help detect, track, and prevent corruption-prone activities within the Service. He reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to ethical standards and legal compliance, stressing that collaboration with the ICPC would further boost organisational efficiency and public confidence.
The Comptroller also lauded the efforts of the NIS Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), describing it as a critical internal mechanism for promoting accountability and integrity, and a solid base for external collaboration with the ICPC.
In his response, Resident Commissioner Ahmad Muhammad Wada welcomed the Comptroller and his team, emphasising that inter-agency cooperation remains vital to effective corruption prevention. He explained that the ICPC’s preventive approach involves systematic reviews of institutional processes to identify and eliminate operational loopholes that encourage corrupt practices.
Commissioner Wada noted that by blocking such vulnerabilities, the Commission helps public institutions build stronger, more transparent, and efficient service delivery systems. He assured the NIS Kano Command of the ICPC’s full support in its anti-corruption drive.
As part of the visit, the Commissioner presented information, education, and communication (IEC) materials to the Comptroller, while Comptroller Lawan, in turn, presented an appreciation plaque to the ICPC Kano office, symbolising a renewed commitment to sustained collaboration.
The visit concluded with a symbolic exchange of IEC materials by both institutions, underscoring their shared resolve to strengthen integrity in public service.
The statement was signed by J. Okor Odey, Spokesperson for the ICPC.
