Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives announced his resignation from the PDP with immediate effect.

Tambuwal said the decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with political associates and supporters.

He cited persistent internal crises, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the party as key reasons for his exit, noting that the conflicts had weakened the unity and direction that once defined the PDP.

The former governor expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity it gave him to serve Nigeria in different capacities, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State.

Following his resignation, Tambuwal confirmed that he has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside his associates and supporters.

He said his decision was guided by the belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a firm commitment to national development.

Tambuwal also reaffirmed his commitment to the service of Nigeria and to the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity.
