Adeyanju hails release of abducted Oyo pupils
…seeks scholarships and justice for slain teacher
Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has commended the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies, and all stakeholders involved in securing the release of abducted school pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
In a statement made available to journalists, Adeyanju described the safe return of the victims as a major relief to their families and Nigerians who followed the incident with concern and prayers.
He praised the coordinated efforts of government authorities and security operatives, noting that the successful rescue demonstrates the importance of sustained collaboration in tackling insecurity across the country.
” Their return is a great relief to their families and to all Nigerians who stood in hope and prayer throughout this difficult period,” he stated.
However, Adeyanju called on the relevant authorities to provide clarity regarding the whereabouts of the body of a teacher reportedly killed during the abduction, stressing that the family deserves the opportunity to give their loved one a dignified burial.
The activist also urged both federal and state governments to go beyond celebrating the victims’ release by ensuring comprehensive rehabilitation and psychosocial support for the rescued pupils and teachers.
According to him, the traumatic experience suffered by the victims could have long-term psychological effects if not properly addressed through professional counselling and care.
Adeyanju further appealed to the government to award scholarships to the affected pupils up to university level, describing such a gesture as a meaningful investment in their future and a demonstration of the nation’s commitment to their welfare.
He emphasized that the incident should serve as a wake-up call for authorities at all levels to intensify efforts aimed at preventing future attacks on schools and protecting children from criminal elements.
The lawyer expressed hope that the successful rescue operation would strengthen the country’s resolve to improve security nationwide and guarantee safe learning environments for all children.
He maintained that no child should be denied access to education because of insecurity, urging government and security agencies to adopt stronger preventive measures against the growing threat of school abductions across the country.
